Cashiers to Highlands

kris and i had been trying to get to some of the small little mountain towns of north carolina before christmas. they are usually festively decorated and are a lot of fun to stroll through, do a little shopping and find the favorite local coffee shop.
so, last weekend turned out to be our last chance as christmas was rapidly approaching. it turned out to be the perfect weekend to go. the big winter storm that covered much of the east gave us a perfect backdrop to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.
we didn’t get much shopping done but we did have a nice drive and had a lot of fun exploring what the small towns had to offer. hopefully we’ll return before winter’s end, the snow too!
our new home

this post is long overdue. but i’ve been waiting to get a picture of the house we’re living in. i still haven’t gotten one as you can see from above. but thanks to google street view we’re still in business.
after being married for 4 months, we finally found a place to call our own. it’s a simple little 1 bedroom apartment in a quadplex on the north end of greenville, sc. the building was remodeled a few years back but has all the original hardwood floors and doors and lots of character and old charm.
we’re slowly getting settled. boxes make up most of the furniture, sadly. but it’s coming along. slowly but surely, as they say. it’s a lot of fun having our first home together. getting to do what we want with our little space.
well, if you’re ever in the neighborhood do stop by and say hello.
christmas market

as corey was driving home from work last friday, he noticed the town of pendleton was all hustle and bustle. people were bundled up in scarves and jackets and heading toward the town green for their annual christmas tree lighting. if you know my husband, you know he loved this. the cold air, the merry atmosphere, christmas. he came home and asked me what i wanted to do for the weekend. when i mumbled a few half-hearted suggestions, he told me about pendleton’s christmas market. its basically an arts and crafts fair, with tables and goods set up on the green around the christmas tree. there was even funnel cake! we spent the morning breakfasting at the local bakery, drinking coffee, shopping the tables, and exploring a treasure trove of antique stores. we left with a small mirror from our favorite place, old colonial antiques. it was so much fun experiencing the local creativity and community. i love this time of year!!!
