our new coffee table

meet our new coffee table: the big, old trunk. we’re going to say it’s about 75 years old just for the sake of argument. it’s dark wood with black metal hinges and it now lives in front of our couch.
kristen had the idea a while back about finding a trunk for a coffee table for a couple of reasons, 1. they look really nice (see above) and 2. we can store all the stuff that currently occupies floor space.
perfect!
oh, and now we can put our feet up when we’re watching a movie too!
south carolina snow

it doesn’t happen too often, so we get real excited about it when it does come around. yes, even if there is more ice than actual snow. it still covers everything in a blanket of white, and we still get to get up out of and bed and look outside our window at the beauty of it after a good night’s rest. and we still get to sit around and watch movies and drink hot chocolate.
we just have to do it all very quickly, because usually it will all be gone by tomorrow!
here are a few more pics from our day on flickr: Snow Days
hope you were able to enjoy one of this year’s big winter storms.

united

i was looking around on the Acts 29 network website one evening and noticed that in their upcoming list of events was one in asheville: the united marriage conference.
i told kristen to come check it out real quick and last monday evening we decided to go. so saturday morning came and we got up real early and drove up to asheville to missio dei church, who was hosting the event. it’s an acts 29 church that’s about 2 years old.
they invited ray and jani ortlund of immanuel church to be the guest speakers.
they were really great, and we got to sit an listen to hours of encouragement and hours of wisdom from a couple that’s been through 38 years of marriage. it’s refreshing to sit and listen to the gospel concerning marriage. it’s great being in community with others seeking to learn what it’s all about as well.
go if you have the chance. take some time to invest eternally in your relationship. God will be glorified.
our new year’s with…
the avett brothers! what an awesome new year’s surprise from kristen. this surprise was part of my christmas present and what a great present. we got to escape to asheville for the weekend and spend new year’s together with some amazing musical accompaniment.
asheville is a beautiful smaller city nestled in the mountains. we headed up after work on thursday and went straight to the civic center. the streets were very crowded on account of this being a sold out show and of course because it was new year’s eve.
we waited in line for 30 mins, and were in our seats by 8:30, not too bad. sallie ford and the sound outside was the first band to open. originally from weaverville, nc i believe. very enjoyable. next was langhorn slim. then finally the avett brothers came on for a very nice lengthly set. they played till a few minutes before midnight, took a break, and then came back out for the countdown and to ring in the new year.
quite an evening.
we got a hotel for night and awoke this morning wanting to spend some time downtown. sadly not much was open. we almost couldn’t even find breakfast, but luckily mayfel’s saved the day! and man was it worth it. they made a spectacular “hillbilly breakfast” and of course some good coffee.
we made a run to rei to finish off our trip and a wonderful new year’s! thanks baby!
