rain and joshua james.

The weather has finally yielded a bit. Resembling something like winter. A front moving through brought some relief with a few days of rain, cooling the temps down into the 50’s.

It brought a lot of snow to the mountains as well. While I was out driving around today, the clouds broke just enough for me to see what I thought was really white clouds and sky, but was actually the snow covered mountains on the horizon.

Kristen and I went to our first concert in L.A. the other night at the Hotel CafĂ©. Joshua James was headlining with Lex Land opening and Austin Hartley-Leonard playing a little earlier in the evening. We left about 5 to allow plenty of time for the commute with rush hour traffic. We were there waaay too early. Joshua James didn’t end up going on until 11:15. I am glad we got to see a few of the earlier shows, but it was definitely getting late.

That feeling completely changed once the band took the stage and he started playing. I went in with a certain expectation of his style music, having heard all the album’s and ep’s he has released.

Kristen and I were absolutely blown away by his live performance though. I had always thought that his songwriting was convicting and honest delivered with his quiet voice. He held nothing back at the live show. It was infused with passion, his voice loud and full of intention. Singing every word with a conviction that made each one in the audience feel it too.

A walked away astounded. And with a new respect for live performances. Joshua James retains the spot at the top for me. He’s releasing a new album in May. Nothing but anticipation.
